ESL/EFL Online Instructor, UNK Global

Job Duties: The ESL/EFL Online Instructor serves a critical role in equipping students for academic and professional achievement by enhancing their linguistic competence, cultural awareness, and ability to communicate effectively in diverse academic contexts. Within the framework of the ELI Online Program, this position is instrumental in advancing the institute's mission to deliver accessible, high-quality English language instruction to a global student population.
 
This is a part-time position, and teaching assignments will be determined based on student enrollment and programmatic needs.
 
The ESL/EFL Online Instructor will deliver high-quality English language instruction to international students enrolled in the English Language Institute (ELI) at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK). Primary responsibilities include delivering engaging online courses in speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar, as well as teaching courses that promote intercultural communication and academic preparedness. The instructor will also be responsible for contributing to the design, development, and regular revision of curriculum materials for ELI courses, ensuring that instructional content aligns with the program’s learning outcomes, academic standards, and the diverse linguistic and cultural needs of the student population. In addition, the instructor will employ digital platforms such as Zoom and Canvas to facilitate instruction and enhance student outcomes in academic English. Courses are conducted in both synchronous and asynchronous formats and will be delivered entirely online. Instructional responsibilities may include teaching both adolescent and adult English language learners.
 
 
Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree or Ph.D. in TESOL is required. Degrees in ESL/EFL Education, Applied Linguistics, or English may be considered if accompanied by TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA certification
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching ESL/EFL to adolescents and/or adult learners
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in online environments (Zoom)
  • Experience in designing and adapting ESL/EFL curriculum and instructional materials to meet program objectives and learner needs
  • Proven skills in effectively working with diverse populations and ability to understand cultural nuances in language learning
  • Ability to use computers and instructional technology
  • Familiarity with using Canvas LMS (preferred)
  • Familiarity with IELTS and TOEFL, as well as experience teaching IELTS/TOEFL preparation courses (preferred)
  • Native English proficiency
 
Additional Qualifications:
  • Availability to teach courses during mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on student needs and scheduling requirements.
  • Submission of a sample lesson plan and a 15–30 minute demo teaching video. If a candidate does not have a demo video readily available, ELI can arrange a live virtual session via Zoom with a group of students for a teaching demonstration.
