Heavy Equipment Operator – Public Works

The City of Kearney Public Works Department is looking for a hard-working individual to join their team as a Heavy Equipment Operator! Duties include operating a variety of heavy equipment such as loaders, dump trucks, vac trucks, motor graders, skid steers, mechanical street sweepers, and tractors; participating in snow removal; cleaning and repairing storm sewers and streets; performing concrete and pavement repairs; applying pavement markings; repairing or replacing signs; hauling construction materials; performing routine equipment inspections and maintenance; and assisting with other street and maintenance operations. Must be able to perform minor equipment repairs, use small power tools, set up work zones, and work overtime as required. May serve as a lead worker when necessary.
 
Minimum Qualifications: Education and experience equivalent to completion of high school/GED and five years of manual labor experience, including three years at the equipment operator level. Valid Nebraska driver’s license required. Must possess a Class B CDL with Air Brakes Certification or be able to obtain one within six months of hire.
 
Residency requirement: Employees must reside within a 30-minute response time of their assigned work site.
